LIBERAL YOUTH COMES TO SOUTHPORT

Southport now has its very own Liberal Youth arm, thanks to the efforts of Birkdale resident Sarah Harding.

Sarah, who is currently sitting her A-Level exams at Merchant Taylors school was an active member of John Pugh's campaign team in the run up to the General election. "I joined the party and offered to

Sarah Harding

help out and was welcomingly accepted. I started to think about how many other teenagers like myself would actually want to be involved but feel that politics is not directly relevent to them. Liberal Youth is the national youth arm of the Liberal Democrats and aimed at people under the age of 26, concerned with issues such as student loans and climate change that directly affect and interest young people today."

MP John Pugh thinks the establishment of this group will encourage young people to get involved. "It's great and long overdue that Southport has a Liberal Youth branch. Unfortunately many branches only seem to flourish in cities with a high student population and as such I think many young adults who choose not to go to University feel politically disengaged."

"However, people who dont go to University are either trying to find a job, involved in apprenticeships, working full time, paying tax and looking for somewhere to live. All issues that are directly affected by political decisions."

"Southport will now have a forum for young people of all ages to have their voice heard."
